As Richmond gears up for its clash against the West Coast Eagles on Sunday, pressure forward Steely Green has called upon the side to play a “system game of footy”.

The 21-year-old from South Fremantle recently extended his contract with the Club, along with midfielder James Trezise, until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Speaking on Sports Daily, Green said when the side is executing their system, it leads to wins.

“We just want to play our role,” Green said.

“We’ve got a system, and that’s what we are trying to ingrain in the younger boys to just execute their role and play a system game of footy.

“We have played two solid games now where we have executed our system, and we seem to win, and that’s all we are after.”

After eight rounds, Green took confidence in knowing that the up-and-coming Tiger Cubs are getting strong exposure to the elite level.

“It’s been good for the younger boys to experience wins, losses and close games just for their development,” Green said.

“The club environment itself has been amazing. It’s just about cleaning up a few things and role execution, and I think it will take us a long way into the future.

“We get into work and have smiles on our faces, and we are all eager to get better. The drive is definitely there.”

Green gave credit to Richmond skipper Toby Nankervis for being such a strong leader and for paving the way for the youngsters.

“Whenever we run out with Toby, we are a better side automatically,” Green said.

“As a captain and as a player, he is just the ultimate person you want to be around.

“His leadership is just amazing, and he always throws his body on the line, the same as Tim (Taranto) and (Jacob) Hopper, we always have amazing confidence in them.”
