The attendance of 50,406 at Richmond’s MCG home game against North Melbourne last Sunday was the sixth highest home-and-away crowd in the 100-year League football history between the two teams.

What’s all the more impressive about that number is the fact the Tigers and Kangaroos were 16th and 17th on the ladder respectively going into the match.

It was only the sixth occasion overall that a contest between Richmond and North Melbourne during the home-and-away season had attracted a crowd of 50,000 or more.

The other times were:
Round 10, 1980, MCG: 61,769
Round 4, 1995, MCG: 62,606
Round 19, 1995, MCG: 51,247
Round 22, 1996, MCG: 61,740
Round 24, 2023, MCG: 59,555

The biggest attendance at a Richmond v North Melbourne clash was 113,839 at the 1974 Grand Final, which the Tigers won by 41 points.
