With Richmond set to host Sydney at the MCG this Saturday, we take a look at some of the best moments in our rich rivalry against the Swans.
Currently, both teams are tied with 36 wins against one another, with the winner this Saturday set to take the lead in the overall win count.
Kicking off our list was the night Richmond completed its “resurrection” in 2014, when the Club defeated Sydney in Round 23 to make it nine wins in a row to book a spot in September.
On enemy territory, the Tigers bravely held on to win by a nail-biting three points to secure eighth spot on the ladder that year.
Tigers great, Jack Riewoldt, led from the front, booting four goals to go with Brett Deledio’s three goals and 29 disposals.
Key defender Alex Rance also stood tall, repelling the constant attack from the Swans, finishing the game with 16 disposals, 12 intercepts and six rebound-50s.
The Tiger Army won’t forget the game-sealing goal coming off the boot of none other than Dustin Martin himself.
Another unforgettable moment in the Club's history was the night when the Tiger Army went “bananas” at the ‘G.
In Round 8 of 2016, Sam Lloyd delivered a goal after the siren from 45 meters out, giving Richmond a one-point win over the Swans to snap their six-game losing streak.
The goal sent the Tiger Army into pandemonium, erupting the MCG.
To make it even more special, the Tigers went into the fourth quarter 18-points behind but never dropped their heads, giving Lloyd the opportunity to do what every kid dreams of doing.
Deledio, Anthony Miles and Martin were the game's major ball winners, giving the side a boost through the midfield.
To cap off a wonderful night for Richmond, key forward Ben Griffith booted five goals alongside Lloyd’s three goals and match winner.
Fast forward to our most recent game against the Swans, in Round 3 of 2024, the Tiger Army were treated to an Easter Sunday that they won't soon forget.
Neither will head coach Adem Yze, as it marked his first win at the helm.
In true Richmond vs Sydney tradition, it was another game that went down to the wire, but it was the side's huge third quarter that split the game open, having kicked five goals to the Swans’ one.
Tom Lynch led the way up forward kicking three goals, while Mykelti Lefau, Liam Baker and Shai Bolton each slotted two of their own.
Nick Vlastuin played his part, acting as a brick wall down back, holding off the Swans' attack in the dying moments of the game.
In what many thought was an unachievable feat for the Tigers, they managed to hold on to win the game by five points.
The side celebrated with Yze in the change rooms post-game, treating the coach to a Gatorade shower in acknowledgment of his first win at Richmond.
