Richmond midfielder Kane McAuliffe says the playing group is “determined” and “refreshed” coming off the bye, ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs.

The 20-year-old is starting to establish himself as a key part of the Tigers’ midfield core, playing the past five games and averaging 18.4 disposals, while also providing strong work inside the contest.

Speaking to Richmond Media, McAuliffe revealed the points of emphasis for the midfield group and praised the guidance he has received from former North Melbourne captain, and his development coach, Jack Ziebell.

“From a midfield group perspective, we had some really strong growth in the last month, especially around clearance and pressure,” McAuliffe said.

“Just want to keep building on that and making it really consistent, playing our role consistently and growing and earning each other's trust a little bit more.

“It's been really great fun to get back out on the AFL field with the boys. Working with Jack Ziebell, my development coach, we had a chat on the first day back in and went through a plan to keep the form going.

“Working on my role, narrowing that down again, sticking to the basics and just finding out what my best footy is and sticking to that and playing to my strengths.”

The Tigers will be hoping to get back on track on Sunday against the Dogs, after Adem Yze’s men suffered a 44-point loss to Sydney before the bye.

McAuliffe explained how the playing group is out to redeem themselves after the disappointing showing against the Swans.

“I think everyone's come back really refreshed and ready to go,” he said.

“The last game didn't go how we really wanted before the bye, so I think that kind of sat on some of the boys' mind over the break and we've all come back pretty determined and ready to get back into it.”
