As Richmond prepares to face Collingwood this Sunday, we look back at some of our most memorable games against the Pies.
In one of AFL’s longest-standing rivalries, the Richmond vs Collingwood match-up has delivered some iconic moments throughout the years.
A game that will always be one of the greatest in Tiger history is the 1980 Grand Final, an 81-point thrashing over the Pies to claim the Club’s 10th VFL/AFL flag.
Held at the MCG on September 27, the match saw 113,461 fans in attendance, and it was Richmond's first Premiership in six years.
The side was led by coach, and Richmond Hall of Fame member Tony Jewell, and captain Bruce Monteath.
Kevin Bartlett starred in the clash, kicking seven goals and winning the Norm Smith Medal in one of the greatest individual performances in Grand Final history.
The two sides traded goals early in the match, however, Richmond went into half-time with a 43-point lead thanks to the work of a strong midfield group, with Geoff Raines, Bryan Wood, Robert Wiley and Mervyn Keane all dominating the centre clearances.

Another unforgettable game against the Pies was the famous 1991 Mother’s Day match, where Tiger Jeff Hogg kicked 10 goals in a dominant 57-point win.
The very mention of the name Hogg conjures up extremely pleasant memories in the minds of the Tiger Army, thanks to the huge role he played in what became known as the Mother’s Day Massacre – Richmond’s smashing of arch-rival Collingwood on Sunday, May 12, 1991.
It was the most goals Hogg scored in a match throughout his fine playing career at Richmond. He’s one of only 10 players in the Tigers' league football history to achieve that special double-figure goal feat.

Last but not least, the Tiger Army will remember the brilliance of Nathan Brown, who kicked five goals in the last quarter of Round 8, 2005, to secure a come-from-behind victory.
Brown was simply unstoppable in 2005, booting 32 goals whilst averaging 20.2 disposals through the first nine rounds.
