Jacob Hopper is another success story for Richmond in season 2025.

The star midfielder, recruited from Greater Western Sydney in the 2022 trade period, managed only 28 of a possible 46 games during his first two seasons at Tigerland because of injury issues.

This season, however, Hopper has flourished, playing all 19 games so far and averaging an AFL career-high 26.6 disposals, along with 11.6 contested possessions, 3.3 marks, 6.0 clearances, 2.5 centre clearances, 3.7 inside-50s, 4.8 score involvements, 3.3 tackles and 335.8 metres gained.

Across the competition, he is ranked fourth for handballs, ninth for centre clearances and 19th for disposals.

The 28-year-old stepped up superbly against Collingwood at the MCG last Sunday in the absence of gun midfield teammate Tim Taranto, who was a late withdrawal with calf soreness.

Hopper had a team-high 33 disposals, equal game-high 14 contested possessions, six marks, four inside-50s, four clearances, four rebound-50s, six score involvements, five intercepts, three tackles and 324 metres.

It was the fourth time this season that he has racked up 30 disposals or more in a match, which highlights how important he’s been through the midfield for the Tigers.
