A good start to the game and a clinical third quarter was enough to give the Tigers a 41-point victory against the Sandringham Zebras at Kinetic Stadium last Saturday night. Here’s how coach Jake Batchelor assessed the performance of each player.
Lachlan Street (26 disposals, seven tackles, four marks)
“I thought it was one of his best games for the year, his intent and fight around the ball, and ability to stay around it, was really pleasing.”
Jacob Koschitzke (26 disposals, 25 hit-outs, eight clearances, four goals)
“Monstrous game, he filled in as our second ruck for the night and just competed so strongly. He ended up with five shots at goal and gave off two to others as well, so it could’ve been even bigger on the stats sheet, but so proud of his efforts.”
Mutaz El Nour (24 disposals, 15 intercept possessions, eight marks)
“He’s a star, he keeps intercepting the ball really well from strong defensive positions. There’s an opportunity to continue to work on attacking decisions with the ball, but he’s in a great spot.”
Lachlan Wilson (23 disposals, seven inside-50s, four tackles)
“His first half was as a forward and second half as a mid. He just competes, he was really sore going into the game but you wouldn’t have been able to tell by the way he just crashed and bashed.”
Joel Garner (23 disposals, nine tackles, six clearances)
“A great game, he competed really strongly around the midfield to nullify the opposition clearances. He’s a great leader and we love him.”
Austin Johnson (22 disposals, seven marks, five inside-50s, one goal)
“I thought he had a great game as a half-back and wing for us. He covers outlets really well, particularly in Frankston, and it was great to see him get on the scoreboard.”
Harry Scott (21 disposals, seven tackles, three clearances)
“Scotty had slightly less impact than previous weeks but has reviewed and will look to bounce back strongly against a quality Williamstown midfield."
Jacob Blight (17 disposals, five marks, four tackles)
“Bit of a down week compared to his standards, he still defended his man well from stoppage. From turnover we would like to see a bit tighter defence, but looking forward to the bounce back this week.”
Tom McKenzie (16 disposals, seven tackles, four clearances)
“Didn’t stuff the stats sheet but we really like him around the midfield with his power and speed to complement Joel and Streeter. We moved him to half-back in the last quarter to help out with our rotations and he looked safe there.”
Sam Toner (15 disposals, five marks, two goals)
“Had three shots at goal from the wing, but he also gets back into our defensive goal square. He’s learning the outside stuff really well, we’ll just keep honing in on the expectations of a winger at stoppages.”
Sam Grlj (15 disposals, three tackles, 100% disposal efficiency)
“A little bit quieter than the previous week but he still showed his attacking flair, dare and freedom with the ball in hand. He showed really great aggression off defence.”
Nicholas Girolami (15 disposals, four marks, three goals)
“He’s competing so well ahead of the ball, he’s learning forward craft patterns and he’s become a real threat for us ahead of the ball.”
Tom Ferguson (15 disposals, one mark, one tackle)
“I love him, he’s fast, he’s quick, he’s clean. He could’ve had two shots at goal but contradictorily fumbled at the last second. But he’s so quick around the ball and his fast feet provide a lot for us in the forward 50.”
Steely Green (14 disposals, six tackles, four marks)
“Proud of his efforts to drive down from the MCG to Frankston after not getting on as the sub (in the AFL). His attitude was tremendous, he could’ve got on the end of a few goals if the ball bounced either way. I was really proud of him.”
Josh Gibcus (12 disposals, seven intercept possessions, two tackles)
“He played a role on Isaac Keeler at stoppages, and I thought he did the job really well. He’s learning when to defend tightly versus when he can take space, so great to see his improvement.”
Joshua Pollocks (11 disposals, three marks, two goals)
“He just keeps turning up each week and keeps hitting the scoreboard. He keeps competing and we really like what he brings, so we are really proud of his efforts.”
Massimo Raso (10 disposals, three tackles, three goals)
“Great game by Mass, we altered his role slightly closer to goal to maximise his strengths and feel he complimented our attacking system well, finishing with three goals."
Mohammed Yassine (nine disposals, two tackles, two goals)
“The ball movement was quick this week and we got out the back, and he was a big part of that which was really pleasing.”
Nicholas Collier (nine disposals, three tackles, two marks)
“Did a great job on Lance Collard, kept him to one goal and just provided the grunt for us in that defensive half when we were losing stoppages quite easily. He was really calm and great with contests behind the ball.”
Nicholas Guiney (eight disposals, five intercept possessions, three tackles)
“I just love him, we joke that he is such a system player which is true, but he brings so much beef and contested ability to our backline, which is what we pride ourselves on.”
Liam George (eight disposals, three score involvements, one goal)
“It was one of his best games in terms of playing as a winger. He got up and down the ground really well, he won our GPS by an absolute mile and set a record for us this week. A lot of the times the wing doesn’t get the ball on the open side, but he did really well.”
Kaleb Smith (seven disposals, two marks, one tackle)
“I thought he built into the game fairly well, it was great to see him just get through coming back from some groin awareness over the last couple of weeks. We are looking to see him build on it this week.”
Thomas Sims (six disposals, five hit-outs, two marks)
“Had a good challenge in the first half against Dodson, it was disappointing to see him go down with his elbow.”
