Despite Richmond falling zero and three to start the season, star midfielder Ellie McKenzie is confident her side can turn things around this weekend, when they take on the Dees.

“Especially at Casey, they are a bit of a force to be reckoned with down there, so we will make the trek,” McKenzie told the panel of the W show.

“It will be really cool to come up against a good side in Melbourne.

“Their handball chains and uncontested ball movement are huge, so it will be essentially 'how do we stop that and how do we get a bit more score on the board?', too.

“I think getting some marks inside 50 and kicking some more goals will be good.”

Richmond will come off an eight-day break, following their Dreamtime in Darwin Clash with Essendon. It wasn't a win, but it was a game that McKenzie said the side can draw positives from.

“Coming back, we are all in good spirits and we have an eight-day break coming into our next game, so we have been able to refresh and rejuvenate, which has been good,” she said.

“We are very lucky to be able to go up to Darwin, and hopefully that is an annual thing for us now going forward.

“We loved the experience, and the fans really got behind us.”

Still in search of their first win of the season, McKenzie said the side needs to go back to playing with more freedom and capitalise on their moments.

“Straight after that game (against the Bulldogs), we were all very disappointed in the performance, and as Ferg (AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson) spoke about it, it all comes down to consistency,” McKenzie said.

“We talk a lot about moments as a Football Club, and in that game, especially, we didn’t take those moments. We left a lot out there.

“We got to work on that, and pleasingly coming into Round 3, we got a bit more creative and played with a bit more freedom.”

“Although it didn’t come through to the scoreboard, I think there was heaps of improvement and we will build on that momentum.

“I think we have come into this season with a lot of new structures and wanting to do a lot with our game.”

On the bright side, Tiger cub Sierra Grieves impressed in her AFLW debut last weekend, recording 18 disposals, four tackles and 409 meters gained in her first hit-out.

McKenzie had high praise for the 19-year-old, telling the panel that Grieves will be one to watch.

“She is an absolute weapon,” McKenzie said.

“She is pretty quiet around the Club, but she is coming out of her shell now, which is great.

“I think those first few weeks for her were really good, going down to scrimmage and getting a taste of what AFLW is like.

“For her, it was around her work rate and contest-to-contest running, and getting her patterns right before coming into the league.

“So, I think she was really set up well coming into Dreamtime, and we saw how well she performed. There is so much more to give for her.”
