An outstanding Round 6 performance from Ellie McKenzie has been highlighted, with the star midfielder earning all 10 coaches' votes in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year voting.

McKenzie was everywhere in Sunday's narrow loss to St Kilda, collecting 25 disposals, 410 metres gained, 14 contested possessions, eight score involvements, seven clearances, six tackles and two goals.

McKenzie took positives in the side's relentless pressure and never-give-up attitude during the game.

“Going into every week, we speak about contest and pressure a lot, and we are trying to strip back the layers of it now and focus on that being our one wood,” McKenzie said.

“Our forward pressure was unreal, and our backs again were really strong. I think they hold up really well for us every week.

“I think our contest work was really strong, we’ve worked hard on trying to get more balance around the ball.”

Despite losing the battle, Richmond had the advantage in hit-outs (29-20), clearances (28-21) and marks taken inside 50 (3-1).

The 22-year-old lauded the work of Grace Egan and Montana Beruldsen, who were recalled to the side, bolstering Richmond’s midfield prowess.

“Knowing that we played some really good football, it was probably one of the better games we have had this season, despite the loss,” McKenzie said.

“We had Grace Egan coming back and Montana Beruldsen in there as well, so I think we balanced up really well in the midfield.

“We’ll review this, go into the Lions, and we’ll see how we go there.”

Proving herself in her first year in Richmond’s leadership group, McKenzie has already turned her focus to the clash with Brisbane this Sunday.

“Despite that fourth quarter, our first three quarters were really strong,” McKenzie said.

“Looking through that and seeing what worked and just building momentum going into Brisbane."
