Richmond claimed its first win of the 2025 season after defeating a formidable Crows outfit by 11 points on Sunday, in what was a gutsy and determined performance.

Skipper Katie Brennan willed on her side, kicking two goals along with collecting 13 disposals to go with it.

The result comes as a well-earned reward for the Tigers, reflecting the resilient effort shown across the first seven rounds.

“Our game has been building every single week,” Brennan said post-match.

“We feel like we just need to play our way for longer; and we were able to do that, so it was a great reward for effort.

“I’m incredibly proud of our group and not just the 21 that were out there, but we’ve got girls playing scrimmage, our injured crew that always bring the vibes, our coaching panel, high-performance, and everyone across the board.”

In a strongly contested game, Richmond won the inside 50 battle, recording 39 to 33, with five individual Tigers hitting the scoreboard.

Key midfielder, Ellie McKenzie, had a day out, converting three goals along with a slick 24-disposal game.

“I think we play our best footy when we spread the load and don’t rely on too few,” Brennan said.

“We have been able to get the game back on our terms and play a bit more forward-half football.

“Pressure through our forward half and to be able to give our backs a bit of a break by them setting up behind, we were able to wrestle back a bit of momentum.”

The side will look to build on its winning ways as they prepare to face top of the ladder, North Melbourne, in this Saturday night’s Pride Round clash.

“What better opportunity to test it against the very best of the competition right now?” Brennan said.

“I watched them play against Sydney, and they are on another level, so it is going to be an awesome test for our group to step up.

“Our game does match up against the best in the competition, and if we do it for long enough, we give ourselves every opportunity to take on any opposition.”
