Richmond midfielder/forward Tyler Sonsie will enter a fifth season at Richmond, having put pen to paper on a contract for the 2026 AFL season.

Sonsie played a career-high 16 games in 2025, bringing his career tally to 40.

The 22-year-old was able to propel himself towards a strong finish to the AFL season, after earning his place black in the side following a dominant spell at VFL level that included back-to-back 37 disposal and one goal games.

Sonsie then returned to the AFL team for the Round 12 match against GWS and held his spot for the remainder of the season, averaging 17 disposals across 12 consecutive games.

During that stretch, the No. 28 selection in the 2021 AFL Draft produced a career-high 28 disposals against Collingwood in Round 20, backing up his strong performance the week prior against West Coast, where he recorded 21 disposals and a goal.

Sonsie was mainly used in the AFL team as a half forward, as well as on the wing and through the midfield.

His strong foot skills on both sides also allowed him to play occasionally as a rebounding defender.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley, said that Sonsie should take confidence from the AFL level exposure he had this year.

“Tyler’s strengths were obvious for all to see whenever he took the field this year, and we hope with another pre-season he will continue to grow as a player,” he said.

“He has worked hard for this contract extension, and it is a great reward for him. We are looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in 2026.”
