Trevor Wilson, the talented teenage rover who played U17s, U19s, Reserves and Seniors at Tigerland, has died. He was 75.

Wilson died February 14th 2026 at Armitage House, Wonthaggi, his family announced.

By the time he was selected for his senior debut in 1970, Wilson had already accumulated a rather impressive junior career – a State schoolboy representative, premierships with Richmond Fourths in 1966 and Under 19s in 1968 and 1969, a Best and Fairest with the Fourths, and a Victorian appearance with the VFL Reserves.

And, in that 1970 season, he easily won our Reserves goalkicking with 42 goals.

Wearing No. 56, Wilson’s senior debut was as a late inclusion into the Round 12 1970 match against Fitzroy, replacing John Northey on the morning of the game who had the flu.

It was the return match from the opening game of the season where Fitzroy upset the reigning premiers in front of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Richmond was certain it wouldn’t be beaten again, but it lost by 26 points.

Wilson was unlucky with his timing, as the Richmond side was at its most powerful by this stage, and as rover, he had to battle selection with, among others, Kevin Bartlett.

His second, and final, game with the Tigers was the last home and away match of 1970 against Footscray – the team he would play for the following year.

The 19-year-old booted two goals from three disposals, but the Tigers lost and missed the final series.

Born on December 10 1950, Wilson began with the Under 17s, coached by Bill Boromeo – then played 33 games for the Under 19s from 1967-69, kicking 55 goals.

For the Richmond Reserves he played 33 games and kicked 60 goals from 1969-1970. After his Richmond career he played one game with Footscray, then went to Williamstown, then Bena (in the Bass Valley League) where he won the League Best and Fairest, Dandenong in the VFA, and then coached Korumburra and Pakenham to premierships.
