Lachlan Street has been named Richmond VFL captain for a fifth consecutive season, as voted by the playing group.

The 27-year-old, who is entering his eighth season at Richmond in 2026, has been the heart and soul of the Club’s VFL program for the better part of seven seasons, having held the captaincy mantle since 2022.

"I don't think anyone is surprised. He is a Richmond man through and through and is super well-respected in this building and in the league," VFL coach Jack Madgen told the playing group.

"I'm excited to be able to coach 'Streeta' as the captain, and I'm going to learn a lot from him."

Known for his toughness around the contest, Street was an integral part of the 2019 premiership team and finished runner-up in the Club's VFL Best and Fairest in 2021.

Having made his inspirational return from an ACL injury against North Melbourne in Round 8 last year, Street went on to play 12 matches in 2025, bringing his total to 77 VFL games for Richmond.

"It's never taken lightly for me. It's always been a dream of mine to wear the colours and to be part of the Richmond Football Club. It's something I feel very proud about," Street said.

"It's allowing everyone here, players and staff, to feel empowered to get better, not only on the footy field, but off-field as well and feel that this environment is the best place to do that.

"We have a ceiling, and it's our job to break through that ceiling and bring success back to our footy Club. It's up to us as the footy group and leadership group to get us there."

Street will be supported by his vice-captains, Joel Garner and Mutaz El Nour, who were voted in by their peers for the third-straight season.

After taking home the 2025 Guinane Medal as a joint VFL Best and Fairest winner, El Nour has continued to flourish on and off the field at Richmond.

Leading from the backline, El Nour left his mark by becoming one of the best lockdown and intercept defenders in the League, earning him a spot in the VFL Team of the Year last season.

An intercept defender, a strong one-on-one player and a great ball-user, El Nour played a crucial role across the entire season, helping Richmond win its Wildcard Final over GWS, which saw them reach an Elimination Final against the Brisbane Lions.

Garner, who enters his third VFL season with Richmond, was a star during last year's campaign and is looking to carry on his leadership this season.

The 26-year-old also notched 30 touches against the Giants at ENGIE Stadium in Round 10, starring in Richmond's 12-point victory away from home.

The inside midfielder also continues his work in the AFL program as an Indigenous Player Development Manager.

"They are tremendous connectors, celebrators, and they also compete at the highest level. They uphold those values so highly," Street said of his 2026 vice-captains.

Rounding out the 2026 VFL leadership group is Liam George, and new addition, Harry Scott.

"They bring a different type of leadership to this group," El Nour said of George and Scott.

George returns to his leadership role for a second consecutive season, as he enters his third at Richmond.

He played 18 games in his second season for Richmond in 2025, including the Club's Wildcard and Elimination Finals, where he continued to impose his leadership on the field.

He starred in Round 13 against the Bulldogs, collecting 23 disposals.

The half forward/winger brought the energy on and off the field, leading a young Richmond outfit, and earning his full season in the yellow and black, with expectations and trust from his teammates that he will continue to grow in 2026.

Meantime, it is Scott's first time being elevated to the leadership group since his debut two seasons ago.

Now with 26 games under his belt, Scott has established himself as a key pillar in and around the ball, competing in 17 home-and-away games, as well as the Wildcard and Elimination finals last season.

The 21-year-old was also recognised in the top five of the VFL's Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal, celebrating the competition's best young players last season.
