Richmond coach Adem Yze was disappointed with his young side’s inability to play out the game in Friday night's clash with Melbourne.

The Demons kicked six goals to the Tigers' one in the final term, to blow the score out to a 54-point victory. A spirited Richmond trailed by just 11 points during the third quarter, before Melbourne stormed home.

“We're at this stage right now where we just can't put a four-quarter performance together, especially against the better teams,” Yze said.

"The first three quarters we played the right way, we were really competitive, denying what they wanted. Just some execution...they were just better. Their polish in front of goal and their inside-50 connection compared to ours.

"The last quarter was just a blowout. To lose the last quarter by 20 contested possessions, inside-50s we have eight for the quarter to 15...it was the weight of numbers in the end.

“We're disappointed. We don't want to expect to not play a four-quarter performance. I expect our players to walk out of here with a bad taste in their mouths because we can't sustain it for four quarters. We're a winning footy Club, we're not a losing footy Club. We're not going to be happy with a competitive performance and our Tiger Army expects more.

“On Monday we'll walk in and take the positives out of the first three quarters and look at the learnings from the last quarter.

“But there were things in the last quarter that just weren't good enough. We've got to get better.”

Yze said Hugo Ralphsmith had ‘tweaked’ his knee during the match, but insisted he should be right for the Tigers’ game against West Coast next Saturday.

“Hugo tweaked his knee a little bit, so he came off late,” Yze said.

“So a little medial, but he's adamant it's OK. So the eight-day break might help there. So we'll obviously assess that over the next 24 hours.”
