Richmond’s Championship and Community Division teams have both finished on top of the ladder in the Victorian Wheelchair Football League's (VWFL) home-and-away season, setting up exciting finals campaigns.

Both teams are set to face Essendon in the qualifying final this Sunday at La Trobe University. Interestingly, the Tigers and Bombers have met twice this season and both recorded a win each, in the Championship and Community Divisions, adding to the intrigue around Sunday's game.

VWFL Round 9 Results 

Championship Division: Essendon defeated Richmond 17.3 (105) to 11.10 (76)

Community Division: Richmond defeated Essendon 8.8 (56) to 8.2 (50) 

Despite its strong form, Richmond’s Championship team fell short to Essendon by 29 points. Chris Kotsanas and captain James Weinert were dominant up forward, scoring 11 goals between them.

The Community Division team had an epic win over Essendon, winning by just six points. Bianca Meo scored two majors alongside Bryan Parsons, who had four.

VWFL Round 10 Results 

Championship Division: Richmond defeated Collingwood 14.10 (94) to 4.6 (30) 

Community Division: Richmond defeated Collingwood 9.8 (62) to 4.10 (34) 

In Round 10, the Championship side bounced back with a formidable 64-point win over the Pies at La Trobe University. Weinert was a standout, scoring a game-high 10 goals, while Kotsanas continued his fine form, slotting four goals of his own. 

To cap off their regular season campaign, the Community Division Tigers solidified themselves at the top of the ladder with a 28-point win over third-placed Collingwood. The Round 10 win made it seven wins for the season, with only one loss throughout the year.

Both teams will face Essendon this Sunday, August 2, at La Trobe University in the qualifying final. Don’t miss the action with the Community team to start at 1pm, followed by the Championship team at 2pm. Entry is free.
