Veteran midfielder Dion Prestia has heaped praise on the Club's latest debutant pair, Sam Cumming and Tom Burton, following Friday night's Anzac Day Eve clash against the Demons at the MCG.
Cumming and Burton both pulled on the jumper for the first time, and as seen through Prestia's eyes, also found ways to make an impact across the ground.
"It was good to get games into Sam Cumming and Tom Burton. They'll learn so much from that game," Prestia said post match.
Cumming, who was selected with Pick 7 in the 2025 AFL Draft, made his highly anticipated debut after a shoulder setback.
The 18-year-old went on to collect 13 disposals, five clearances and kick a goal on debut, slotting in nicely alongside fellow 2025 draftee, Sam Grlj.
Burton, on the other hand, was handed Richmond's final list spot after impressing in the pre-season. The rookie had 12 touches, took a mark and laid one tackle on debut.
But it was more than the numbers that stood out to Prestia.
"They both deserved their game. Burton's running ability is going to stand up in AFL games, and Sammy Cumming taking a contested mark, to go back and kick a goal, just shows that they're ready for this level," Prestia said.
"There's heaps of learnings for those two. They'll just get better."
Attention has quickly turned to Richmond's clash against West Coast over in Perth this Saturday, with Prestia and the team already focused on building on the period of brilliance shown on Friday night.
"The team is still young and learning. It was good to be in the game, we just have to learn how to finish off quarters in games," he said.
"We've got to take learnings from this. It will be interesting to see the stats, like the inside-50s, which we've won over the last few weeks. We've got to keep on showing up."
