Exciting, young prospect Sydney Stack somehow continues to be overlooked for an AFL Rising Star nomination, despite putting together a highly-impressive body of work in his debut season of league football with Richmond.

Stack, who has played seven games for the Tigers after being recruited via the AFL’s supplemental selection period, is averaging 16.6 disposals, 6.0 marks and 3.1 tackles per match.

Among the competition’s eligible rising star contenders, he is ranked fourth in marks, fourth in intercepts, fifth in effective disposals per game, eighth in tackles, eighth in rebound-50s and ninth in uncontested possessions.

The talented teenager is coming off another good performance, against Hawthorn at the MCG last Sunday, where he picked up 17 disposals, had six intercepts and took seven marks in the Tigers’ decisive win.

Star Richmond midfielder Kane Lambert paid tribute to Stack in a post-match interview with KRock radio station.

“You know you’re having a big impact when one of the opposition players goes, ‘Gee, that kid can play’,” Lambert said.

“He’s fearless the way he goes about his footy.

“It’s a great story to get himself on to the list . . .

“He’s flourished in our system.

“He might only have played seven games now, but I’m sure he’s going to play a lot, lot more.”
