Richmond will enter the 2020 season as reigning premier with the ninth oldest and eighth most experienced playing list in the AFL competition.

The average age of the Tigers’ squad going into next season will be 24.01 years.

They’ll have 18 players aged between 18 and 21 – (in surname alphabetical order) Noah Balta, Shai Bolton, Callum Coleman-Jones, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Noah Cumberland, Thomson Dow, Derek Eggmolesse-Smith, Luke English, Ryan Garthwaite, Jack Higgins, Will Martyn, Ben Miller, Patrick Naish, Bigoa Nyuon, Hugo Ralphsmith, Jack Ross, Sydney Stack and Fraser Turner.

There will be 13 players in the 22-26-year-old bracket – Jake Aarts, Liam Baker, Nathan Broad, Jason Castagna, Mabior Chol, Jack Graham, Oleg Markov, Kamdyn McIntosh, Toby Nankervis, Daniel Rioli, Jayden Short, Ivan Soldo and Nick Vlastuin.

Nine players fit into the 27-29-year-old category – David Astbury, Josh Caddy, Trent Cotchin, Dylan Grimes, Kane Lambert, Tom Lynch, Dustin Martin, Marlion Pickett and Dion Prestia.

Shane Edwards, Bachar Houli, Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt are the only players on the list over 30 years of age.

Collingwood has the oldest list in the competition with an average of 24.88 years.

In terms of overall AFL match experience, Richmond has 20 members of its list who have played 20 games or less – Aarts, Balta, Chol, Coleman-Jones, Collier-Dawkins, Cumberland, Dow, Eggmolesse-Smith, English, Garthwaite, Markov, Martyn, Miller, Naish, Nyuon, Pickett, Ralphsmith, Ross, Stack and Turner.

The 21-50-game group contains five players – Baker, Bolton, Graham, Higgins and Soldo.

So that’s 25 of the Tigers’ list of 44 who have played under 50 games.

In the 51-100-game group are seven players – Broad, Castagna, Lambert, McIntosh, Nankervis, Rioli and Short.

Astbury and Vlastuin are the only 101-150-game players on the list, while there are 10 with more experience than that – Caddy, Cotchin, Edwards, Grimes, Houli, Lynch, Martin, Prestia, Rance and Riewoldt.

Richmond’s overall games average now is 68.82.

Geelong has the most experienced playing list in the competition with an average of 80.72 games.
