Richmond will return to Darwin for the third consecutive year for the AFLW Dreamtime clash against Essendon this season.
The Tigers will once again meet the Bombers at TIO Stadium in a powerful celebration of elite women’s football and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
Taking place in Round 3 of the AFLW fixture on Sunday 30 August at TIO Stadium, the match coincides with the opening week of Indigenous Round celebrations. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:45pm local time, with the marquee clash to be broadcast nationally on Seven.
Following the strong success of the past two years, which saw passionate crowds and widespread community engagement across the region, Richmond will travel North to continue building its connection with communities across the Top End.
With more than 40 per cent of registered players in the NT identifying as female, the match continues to highlight the region’s contribution to the growth of the women’s game while providing a national stage to celebrate culture, connection, and community.
Richmond Football Club CEO Shane Dunne spoke about the significance of the game for the Club and the strong connection it creates with local communities.
“This game has quickly established itself as a great celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and contribution to the game,” Dunne said.
“I know how much the game means to our playing group and they can’t wait to connect with the local community again. It is a highlight of the AFLW fixture.
“We greatly appreciate the support of the NT Government and the AFLNT and look forward to building this game further in the years ahead.”
