Coming off a spirited win against Essendon in Dreamtime at the ‘G, Richmond will look to carry that momentum into its first trip to the SCG in four years against Sydney this Saturday.
Speaking on SEN, Tigers coach Adem Yze provided details on the style of play he hopes to see moving forward, identifing facets that need improvement.
“You want to be balanced on all three phases. We think our offence and defence marry up, whether you are playing fast or slow, you have to be able to defend behind all phases,” Yze said.
“Even with the young list and the guys that we’ve got out, we want to play the same way. We want to be really tough in the contest and maximise and minimise clearance, and then when we get a chance with the ball, we want to go fast when we need to.
“The attitude and the mindset, the mentality is the staple of all of our players when they put the jumper on, and that needs to be a given.”
When discussing the group’s motivation, Yze revealed his side remains undeterred and just as hungry for success.
“We have premiership players that realistically could turn their toes up because they have been there before, but I haven’t sensed that, and I didn’t sense that last year,” Yze said.
“They are driving the standards, and they are getting enjoyment out of seeing Noah Roberts-Thomson kick a goal late in the game and the excitement that it’s bringing to a lot of our older lads.
“That group of guys who have been to the pinnacle, they are just loving and driving the development of our younger players both on and off the field.”
