Richmond coach Adem Yze reflected on Sunday's 35-point loss at the hands of Brisbane, as the side looks ahead to a crucial clash against North Melbourne in Round 15.
The coach dissected his youth's growth, the excitement around the Tasmania connection and improvement of his side matching it with the game's best at Ninja Stadium.
Yze on Richmond's response following the Sydney loss...
"We're really proud of our effort. We needed to respond. We weren't up to standard last game against Sydney. We had a responsibility when we put the jumper on," Yze said post Round 14 against the Lions.
"We needed to play the right way and I felt like we did. To beat them in parts of the game that we really needed to, in time in half and create enough front half turnovers, to get back to the way we want to play and be known for. We just weren't good enough there in the end, their execution was better than ours.
"The effort and response was [positive], and we played the right way."
On matching Brisbane's clearance game...
"They kicked four goals from stoppage and centre bounce. They're number one in that category. They did get hold of us in that third quarter. The pleasing thing was the response from the players and the things we were trying, the leadership out there. The players stayed connected and engaged," Yze said.
"We were a little bit down on the bench. You can ride the emotion and let that dent your spirit. But the process was right. Some of the passages of play were potent and exciting.
"The lead up to that [Seth Campbell] shot, is exactly the right way to play. When we did have the wind, we just didn't capitalise on the momentum. We kept fighting, we needed to go in and walk away knowing our supporters would be proud of our effort."
On debutant Kye Annand's input, and the growth of his young players...
"Kye Annand came in for his first game and slotted in nicely. Liam Fawcett gets an opportunity to play on Harris Andrews, their captain. He created a contest and did exactly what he needed to do. We've still got a really young forward line," Yze said.
"That experience for our players against premiership players is something we can't buy. We're really proud. Hopefully the Brisbane Lions walk away feeling like it was a really tough game and we were really hard to play against."
On the Tiger Army's support in Tasmania...
"The atmosphere, that's what our Tiger Army do. They get the chance to come and really embrace that we're coming over for a couple of years. We want to grow our supporter base. Our Tiger Army show up. We needed to put on a performance they'd be proud of and hopefully they walked away really excited by watching the young lads run around," Yze said.
"We're really proud that we're doing this for two years. We love playing here, it's a great ground to play on and our boys enjoyed it. The atmosphere was great and our Tiger Army got behind us."
