After eight rounds, Richmond’s Victorian Wheelchair Football League (VWFL) teams, have gone on an unbeaten streak since Round 4, positioning themselves at the top of the ladder heading into Round 9.
VWFL Round 5 Results
Championship Division: Richmond defeated Collingwood 13.7 (85) to 8.7 (55)
Community Division: Richmond defeated Collingwood 12.6 (78) to 7.3 (45)
Round 5 saw an impressive win from the Championship team, with Shannan Sykes and Chris Kotsanas putting up a combined 13 goals between them. The side led from start to finish, claiming a strong 30-point win over the Pies.
Similarly, in the Community Division game, the side had an array of goal scorers, with Bryant Parsons leading the charge with 7 goals, along with Mark Titford and Bianca Meo slotting 2 themselves.
Both Richmond teams had a Bye in Round 6.
VWFL Round 7 Results
Championship Division: Richmond defeated St Kilda 11.17 (83) to 5.6 (36)
Community Division: Richmond defeated St Kilda 8.7 (55) to 4.4 (28)
Continuing their fine form, the Championship side beat St Kilda by 37 points. Team captain, James Weinert, led from the front, slotting seven goals, the most of the team on the day, followed by Chris Kotsanas’ four.
The Community Division secured its second win against St Kilda this season by a comfortable 27 points. Trailing at quarter time, Bryant Parsons once again got on the end of four goals, with the support from Corin Murphy and Bianca Meo, both finishing the outing with two majors each.
VWFL Round 8 Results
Championship Division: Richmond defeated Hawthorn 26.13 (169) to 4.5 (29)
Community Division: Richmond defeated Hawthorn 18.14 (122) to 3.2 (20)
The Championship team avenged their Round 3 loss against the Hawks in a dominant 140-point win to conclude Round 8. Chris Kotsanas and James Weinert couldn’t be stopped up front, combining for a huge 26 goals, scoring 13 each. The win solidified the Championship team’s position in first place on the ladder.
The Community Division team produced a dominant performance, yet again at the State Netball Hockey Centre, surging to a 102-point win over the Hawks.
Both teams will face Essendon in Round 9 this Sunday at Shepparton Sports Stadium. Entry is free.
