Richmond did a lot right in its Round 22 clash with Adelaide, but coach Adem Yze acknowledges the Tigers will need to "own" some costly errors that contributed to the nine-point defeat.

Winning inside-50s, time in forward half and clearances were all ticks for Richmond, as the Tigers pushed the premiership contending Crows to the wire.

However, some execution and discipline mishaps proved costly, and Yze explained it's important Richmond learns from those when reviewing the game.

“Just be honest about it, we spoke about it [with the players after the game]. We’ve got to wear that, we’ve got to own that as a footy club,” Yze said.

“In big games, we wanted to really build this up as a finals-type game, and we tried to play that way. Obviously the conditions suit that and you have to be strong in the contest, you want to win territory and all the metrics that you want to be good at, and what finals teams are good at, we wanted to really test ourselves in that space. 

"When you do that and you execute your system the right way, little moments are costly...our players that either gave away the free kicks or reversals, things like that, our players are really disappointed in themselves, and they should be. 

"We’ll help them through that, we’ve got to learn from it, but at the same time we’ve got to be really honest and own it. We let one slip and it's really disappointing."

Yze added the fight and spirit from his Tigers was right where it needed to be, as Richmond looks to close out the season on a positive note.

“I couldn’t fault our players, our spirit, our grit, our fight. We played the right way, but we’ve got to be really honest with our performance," Yze said.

“We gave ourselves an opportunity to win a game on the road, hostile environment, against a really strong footy team, and we let ourselves down. When I say let ourselves down...execution, discipline, the things that we can control.

“Little moments like that in really tough conditions...we either didn’t execute well enough or gave away costly free kicks and 50s."

The Tigers play their last home game of the season next Saturday afternoon against St Kilda at the MCG, in Nathan Broad's farewell game.
