Sierra Grieves

They say three is a magic number. And for Round 1 Telstra Rising Star nominee Sierra Grieves, that statement couldn't ring more true.

The 19-year-old thanks her midfield leaders, Monique Conti and Emelia Yassir, who she dubs her "triplets", for their guidance during last weekend's 18-point victory over Collingwood.

"We gel really well together. We are all the same but different. We're all quick," Grieves said.

And it's a help that new coach Jarrad Donders' game plan revolves around the speed that his team can bring to the league.

"This new style of play suits us as a team, not just the midfield. We can achieve anything. It's a clean slate," she said.

On a personal note, Grieves spent the pre-season working on her fitness, which saw her collect an impressive 24 disposals, 14 contested possessions, four clearances, 11 kicks, six score involvements and three intercept possessions in the victory.

"I've embraced that role by honing in on my strengths. I'm really reverting back to those. I had to work on my fitness over the off-season. It's just knowing my strengths are there no matter what," she said.

"I'm working really closely with Brett [Gourley], our midfield coach and a few of the girls in the middle.

"After having one season under my belt, I'm heaps more confident, really trusting myself and my ability. Having the girls support around me really helps. The fact they believe in me is really good."

The focus has quickly turned to Richmond's Round 2 clash against the Dogs at the Whitten Oval this Saturday afternoon, with Grieves keen to help her team take the next step.

"To get the first one [was awesome]. No we can see where we can go," she said.

Richmond takes on the Bulldogs at Whitten Oval this Saturday from 2.05pm (AEST).
