Richmond AFLW coach Jarrad Donders has heaped praise on second-gamer Fina Dethlefsen, who was commanding in Sunday night's Dreamtime in Darwin win over Essendon.

The Tigers pulled off a thrilling comeback over the Bombers, nabbing a five-point win at TIO Stadium, thanks to a scintillating turnover that resulted in a Caitlin Greiser goal with just over a minute remaining.

But it was the honest work to get themselves back in a winning position, especially from Dethlefsen, that impressed Donders the most.

"She's powerful, she's strong, she's dynamic and she commits 100 per cent to contests. She will take anything on," Donders said post-match.

Dethlefsen was prominent in the air, collecting nine disposals, taking three marks and laying three tackles in the win.

"We love her free spirit, she is a very free-spirited player. The strengths she brings to our game is huge," Donders said.

The collective effort, after trailing by 14 points at the main break, to kick four goals to the Bombers' one in the second half, was also a testament to Donders' ability to make changes on the fly, and rely on his players to adjust accordingly.

Namely, Mackenzie Ford's efforts, laying seven tackles and collecting three clearances when moved into the midfield, stood out to the coach.

"I had full belief in the girls. They've done the work over pre-season that set them up really well for the season. Off the back of that, they're clear, they're calm and they're connected. We've trained those moments and situations," Donders said.

"I thought Mackenzie [Ford] had a terrific game. It was obviously a really special game for her, Dreamtime in Darwin. To inject her into the midfield in the second quarter...gave us a real spark.

"Our players know that they need to be able to play two positions, so we can generate that spark for the team wherever that is required."

It was truly an all-round effort from all involved, with Greiser not only kicking the match winner, but also nabbing two incredible goals before hand, as well as 10 disposals and four marks.

"G has been a great presence up forward, with her strength, power and leadership. To kick a couple of goals and kick the sealer is a special moment that she won't forget," Donders said.
