Selwyn Griffith

Richmond is delighted to announce it has appointed Selwyn Griffith as the Club’s new High Performance Manager.

Griffith, who has worked in the AFL industry for the past 15 years, joins Richmond after spending six seasons at Melbourne.

The highly experienced performance manager and osteopath initially joined the Demons in November 2020 and was the Head of Strength and Conditioning as they broke a 57-year premiership drought in his first season at the Club.

Griffith was then promoted to Performance Manager, a role he has held for the past five years.

Previous to his time at Melbourne, Griffith was Performance Coach at Brisbane Lions. He also served as the Lions’ Osteopath and Athletic Development and Rehabilitation Coach.

Griffith initially joined the AFL industry to assist with athlete strength and conditioning. He has a Masters of High Performance Sport from ACU and a Masters of Osteopathy from RMIT University.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Performance, Tim Livingstone said that Griffith had extensive experience in high performance and a proven track record.

“Selwyn has done a terrific job during his time as Performance Manager at Melbourne and was also highly regarded for the work he did in Queensland with the Lions and as an Osteopath,” he said.

“He has great expertise working with elite athletes to enhance their physical and psychological qualities and is highly experienced in accelerated reconditioning strategies.

“Selwyn also, of course, worked closely with Adem during their time at Melbourne, and we are all extremely confident he is someone who will really help our players and us going forward.

“We are thrilled Selwyn has committed to Richmond, and we welcome him and his family to the Club.”

Senior coach Adem Yze added that Griffith would contact players and start working with them on off-season programs immediately.

“Selwyn is amazing at his job,” he said.

“He is a really smart operator. He will get his arms around our boys. He loves training, I spoke to him yesterday and he was running around.

“It is a real key pillar to our football club, and it is at any football club.

“Selwyn has earned his status, he is one of the top high-performance managers in the league.

“We are super excited. I know what he can do technically and tactically, and he is a great person as well.

“No doubt if you walked past Waverley (in the coming weeks), you would see him out there with our players, which is terrific.”
