Judson Clarke, Tom Burton

Wingman Judson Clarke and hard running forward Tom Burton have put pen to paper on fresh contract extensions, locking them in for the 2027 AFL season.

Clarke fought hard to get himself back playing late in the year after back-to-back ACL injuries and just one AFL game across the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

The 22-year-old returned to play the final three games of the season in the AFL line-up where he averaged 11.6 disposals and two inside 50s per match.

The left footer also put together strong form across four VFL games as he built himself back up from the long-term injury.

Clarke’s contract extension will see him locked into a sixth season at the Club after he was initially selected with pick No. 30 overall at the 2021 AFL Draft.

He has played 20 games at AFL level, booting 14 goals with 13 of those appearances coming in 2023.

Burton who won his way onto the list in March via the Supplementary Selection Period, broke through for his AFL debut on Anzac Day Eve against Melbourne.

The teenager held his spot for five consecutive matches where averaged 10.6 disposals and two inside 50s playing as a hard-running half forward.

The former Vic Metro and Western Jets captain also played 11 VFL games across the year, where he averaged 16.4 disposals and kicked eight goals.

Richmond Executive General Manager, Football Talent, Blair Hartley said that the pair both thoroughly deserved their contract extensions.

“Judson has clearly had some terrible luck across the past couple of years but has come out the other side thanks to his diligent work and determination,” he said.

“He has a skill set that can really benefit our team with his running power and kicking. We hope he took enormous confidence from his return to AFL level in the final rounds.

“Tom has also put in a mountain of work since joining us for an SSP trial after the disappointment of missing out in the draft.

“He was able to get a taste of AFL football during the year, and he showed what he can do with his ability to cover the ground, which really gives him a point of difference.

“We are looking forward to seeing what both boys can do off the back of a strong off-season and are excited to see more of them in the yellow and black.”
