Memo AFL Rising Star selectors . . . don’t forget Kamdyn McIntosh when it comes time for you to pick your top five young players in the prestigious award this year.

While the likes of Carlton’s Patrick Cripps and Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan have received plenty of publicity due to their impressive on-field exploits, for sheer consistency of performance, McIntosh surely must rank highly.

The hard-running Richmond wingman received his Rising Star nomination following an excellent league debut in the Tigers’ opening round victory over Carlton at the MCG.

He’s cemented a spot in Richmond’s line-up since then, playing every game and generating drive for the team through his productive run-and-carry.

McIntosh picked up a career-high 27 disposals in the Tigers’ 27-point win against Essendon at a cold, wet MCG last Saturday night.

And, the 21-year-old from WA country town Pinjarra provided a major highlight of the match with a brilliant piece of soccer work during the third quarter.

He forced the ball forward with two kicks off the ground, before a third elevated soccer kick landed in the arms of teammate Dustin Martin, who promptly slotted through a valuable goal in the low-scoring contest.

“I just wanted to keep running with the ball,” McIntosh told ‘Roar Vision’ post-game.

“I used to play soccer back in the day, so I was trying to implement that back into my game . . . I hit ‘Dusty’ (Dustin Martin) inside 50, so that was pretty funny . . . no, it was good.”

McIntosh had a straightforward explanation for the role he plays in the Tigers’ team.

“On the wing, I just try to work my arse off, up and back,” he said.

“It’s definitely something the team sees in me with my fitness . . .

“First of all, I’ve just got to help out the defence and my defensive side, and my offense will come from there.

“So (it’s) a lot of two-way running.”
