Richmond forward Jack Higgins says he is "just happy to be out there training" following a life-changing 2019.

The talented Tiger, who last year underwent surgery to repair a brain bleed, rejoined the playing group in November and is now being integrated into contact work.

The 20-year-old conceded there were moments following his surgery when he thought he may never walk again, let alone play football.

"To be out there training when after I had the surgery about three months ago, I could hardly walk, hardly could eat, it’s pretty crazy," he said.

"I think I'm doing alright training, just slowly building back up, wearing a helmet."

Higgins thanked the Tiger Army, as well as his family and friends, for their support throughout his recovery.

"It’s what really got me through that time, a very tough time in my life," he said.

Teammate Kane Lambert said the playing group had been lifted by Higgins’ return and inspired by his resilience.

"It’s great to have 'Higgo' back just around the group…He’s a great vibrant character and brings a lot of energy," Lambert said.

"He’s a kid who had the world at his feet and unfortunately had a brain injury that was no fault of his own and his world flips around.

"He’s learnt a lot from that experience…He’s got a long road ahead but we’re all here behind him."
