Richmond’s new draftees have been given a crash course on life as an AFL player, by the AFL Players Association.

The two-day Induction Camp at the MCG aims to give young players guidance and information about their journey in the AFL, including life skills, decision making, illicit drugs and gambling.

A key component of the camp focused on the dangers and opportunities presented to players in social media.

All of the Tigers’ 2010 draftees were present at the camp, including Reece Conca, Jake Batchelor, Brad Helbig, Dean MacDonald and Tom Derickx.

Fellow players Mitch Morton and Bachar Houli also took part in presenting breakout sessions on the first day.

Morton spoke about Ladder, a charity organisation set up by the AFLPA to address the issue of youth homelessness across Australia.

Houli took part in a session focussing on diversity in football, alongside Majak Daw (North Melbourne) and Aaron Davey (Melbourne).

The Induction Camp is the first in a series of workshops planned between the AFLPA and AFL clubs in 2011.
