Richmond vice-captain Brett Deledio has spoken of the candid player-led review, following the hefty Round 6 loss to Hawthorn, which led to a significantly improved display last Sunday against Geelong.

Deledio believes the frank discussion among the playing group could prove to be the catalyst for a major Tiger turnaround after this week’s bye, with the team having two wins and five losses on the board in the opening seven rounds of season 2014.

“We were just sick of the crap that we were serving up,” Deledio said on this week’s ‘Talking Tigers’.

“We’ve got a lot of pride in our performance and, from last year, we were playing at 50-60% of what we possibly could.

“So, there were a few home truths and we challenged each other.

“But the good thing about challenging each other is it holds you accountable as well.

“So, if I say to ‘Rancey’ (Alex Rance) or ‘Chappy’ (Troy Chaplin), ‘Boys, why aren’t you picking this bloke up’?  They’ll say, ‘Well, mate, you didn’t pick him up here’.

“It makes sure that if I’m going to say it, and challenge him, I’m doing the same thing.

“You saw a bit of it on the weekend.

“I definitely noticed it a lot more, but to be like a Hawthorn, or a Geelong, we’ve got a bit of a way to go.”
