Valuable Richmond veteran, Chris Newman, is delighted to be extending his AFL career into a 13th season, in 2014.

Newman, who has provided the Tigers with fine service throughout a 224-game career, which extends back to 2002, has signed a new one-year deal, binding him to the Club until the end of the 2014 season.

“I’m rapt.  It was something that I obviously wanted at this stage of the year,” Newman told ‘Roar Vision’.

“I just think it’s good to know that I’ll be part of the group, with some success around the corner.”

Newman was one of four players Richmond today announced had re-committed to the Club by signing contract extensions, along with fellow Tiger stalwart, Jake King, and young guns Brandon Ellis and Nick Vlastuin.

“It’s good news.  A couple of old boys there in me and ‘Kingy’, and Ellis and Vlastuin,” Newman said.

“It’s just a great sign of where we’re at . . . a really good blend of some old and new, and all players showing faith in where the Club is headed.

“Who wouldn’t want to stay at this great club?  I spoke to a couple of those boys and I know that they’re rapt.

“For Nick, in his first year to show some faith, and the Club repaying the work he’s done already, is a really good sign.

“And, the Club snapped Brandon up on the back of some really good form.  He’s one of those guys who’s a gut runner, and I think we really need that.

“He’s a very fit boy and he’s provided a few goals and is a really offensive weapon for us.  So we’re really excited to see what he can do.”
