Richmond distributed around 2500 tickets to multicultural communities during the 2012 home-and-away season.

Schools and universities with international programs received many of the tickets to Richmond’s home games at the MCG, allocating them to students and families wanting to attend AFL games.

This initiative aims to introduce and engage people of multicultural backgrounds to AFL football, with the intention to eventually win them over as committed Tiger fans.

Multicultural engagement aligns strongly with the Club’s strategy to support different communities and build a powerful, diverse supporter base.

More than 1000 tickets were distributed for Richmond’s Round 3 clash with Melbourne, which resulted in the Tigers’ first win for season 2012.

Before that game, the Club dedicated ‘Before the Pounce’ activities on Punt Road Oval, at the ME Bank Centre, to multicultural experiences, with an array of international food to savour, including felafels served from a van owned by the family of Richmond star Bachar Houli.

The Tigers’ multicultural initiatives will continue to take place in the off-season, with Houli conducting his inaugural Islamic Football Academy from September 20-21, and the Club’s Multicultural Schools Cup in Term 4.
