As Richmond prepares to face an in-form Western Bulldogs outfit on Saturday night, coach Adem Yze is eager to see some of his young ‘Tiger bucks’ rise to the challenge of lining up on star midfielder Marcus Bontempelli.

“He's [Bontempelli] obviously one of the best players in the comp, so our midfield crew will have a plan going into it,” Yze said on Friday.

“There's obviously contingencies around that, whether he goes forward and things like that. You always want to make sure that he doesn't have an influence on the result.

“We'll have a plan going into it, but he's in really good form, and obviously when he plays well, they play well, so we'll have a plan going in.”

Yze is backing his young Tigers to take on an experienced Dogs midfield, including Sam Lalor, who is set to gain more midfield minutes in his second game since returning from an Achilles injury.

“We’ve got a few young bucks that'll be nice to lean against him [Bontempelli], so Sam Cumming will get that opportunity,” Yze said.

“We want to keep giving our young midfielders some opportunities. Taj Hotton will go through there, Sam Grlj will get an opportunity to go through there.

“Sammy [Lalor] will start to [get his] opportunity to go through the midfield now that he's not as managed with his minutes, so as we start growing his game time, you'll see him having more exposure in that midfield crew.

“It'll be nice to see, and to be fair, we need him to grow on an AFL field and learn off the best, and Bont is one of the best, and we'll give him that opportunity.”

Richmond takes on the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night from 7:40pm.
