Richmond’s Bachar Houli travelled to Adelaide yesterday to visit the Islamic College of South Australia.
The visit was part of Houli’s role as a Multicultural Ambassador for the AFL’s Multicultural Program, which aims to introduce young people from diverse communities to AFL.
Houli attended the school with Port Adelaide player David Rodan, and spoke to students about different pathways into AFL, and ran some skills sessions.
“This is why I love working for the AFL's Multicultural Program. I get the opportunity to give back to the community, not only in Melbourne, but all around the country,” Houli said.
Houli will also host the inaugural Bachar Houli Academy this Thursday and Friday, for a select group of 20 Islamic students.
The students will be taken through their paces in the two-day camp, with skills sessions, game education sessions, AFL draft testing and skill acquisition.
“Through these sessions, hopefully we can locate talent and help the students on their way into AFL football,” Houli said.
