Richmond’s draw with Port Adelaide in last Sunday’s final home-and-away round of the 2012 season was its fifth over the past five years - the most by any team during that period.

The Tigers started their recent runs of draws in Round 10 of the 2007 against the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium with scores locked together on 10.13 (73) at the end of full-time.

The following year, Richmond 20.10 (130) drew with the Western Bulldogs 19.16 (130) in a high-scoring Round 5 encounter, again at Etihad Stadium.

In Round 16 the next season (2009), the Tigers tied with North Melbourne at the MCG - 12.13 (85) apiece.

Almost surprisingly, there was no drawn match for Richmond in 2010.  But in Round 2, 2011, the Tigers returned to the “drawing board”, scoring 14.11 (95) to St Kilda’s 13.17 (95) in an absorbing MCG battle.

Then, just when you thought there would be no draws at all in the AFL’s 2012 home-and-away season, up bobs Richmond with a 16.10 (106) to Port Adelaide’s 16.10 (106) final round result.

The only other league team to come close to the Tigers in terms of draws during the past five years is St Kilda, which has had four.  Then follows Brisbane and Sydney, with three each.
