Richmond Women's Recruiting Manager Trent Mosbey provides Richmond Media with a recap of the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft.

Our first selection of the night was Stella Reid, taken with pick No 5. It's been an impressive year for the U/19 All Australian and vice-captain of the premiership-winning Oakleigh Chargers.

"She’s been an outstanding contributor at Oakleigh Chargers and Vic Metro this year and (we’re) really impressed and delighted to have her on board. She fits a number of needs on our list. She can play a number of roles across the ground, she’s got elite kicking skills, she’s a goalkicker, and excellent mark overhead. We’re really looking forward to getting her on board because she’s a high-achieving character and an elite person. We’re looking forward to seeing what she can do in the future."

Stella's played most of her football as a midfielder/forward, but she's extremely versatile, where do you see her fitting into Richmond's line-up?

"We’ll probably start her as a half-forward at this stage and use her overhead marking and her running to push up the ground. Hopefully she can snap some goals for us as well. But then also down the track, we see her playing on the wing and half-back and advancing as an inside midfielder as well. So, she’s got a range of versatility which really suits what we want to do at the club."

Next up was Emelia Yassir, who we drafted with pick 16. She's a fierce competitor and a high-pressure player, what else made Emelia stand out?

"Her fierce competitiveness really stood out from day one when we first identified Emelia. We probably needed a small, defensive pressure forward at our club, so to get Emelia is a really great result. She’s really strong overhead, (has) great foot skills as well, and we really see her playing a dangerous role inside-50 and hitting the scoreboard for us. A fantastic competitor, high worker and really highly-regarded amongst the Calder Cannons and Vic Metro programs. We're really delighted to get Emelia on board and 'Millzy' is a real cracker, we look forward to seeing what she can do for us."

With pick 48 we welcomed Meagan Kiely, North Melbourne's VFLW captain. She's been one of the standout players in the VFLW this season and that, alongside her leadership qualities, must have impressed you?

"(She’s) an outstanding character and person, and we were really blown away by the interview process with Meagan, so we’re rapt to get her on board. She was really determined to get to Richmond Football Club, so to make that dream come true is a really special moment for me, and for the club. We really look forward to seeing her play as an inside midfielder for us and potentially play down back as well. (She has a) really strong mark overhead, is very versatile, highly competitive, and (has) a really nice kick. (She) hit’s a number of areas that we target and particularly the character piece. We really welcome Meagan on board."

To round out our draft crop, we selected winger Ingrid Houtsma with pick No. 50. She's tall, athletic, and comes with plenty of upside.

"(Upside) is the biggest attribute we identified with Ingrid…We really love her movement and her ability to run and carry the football, really high endurance, and strong running patterns on the wing (which is) another need on our list as well, to keep building that area… We look forward to seeing what Ingrid can do in our program and are really excited about her as a person as well, (she’s) really driven and motivated to become an AFLW player."

Lastly, we re-listed Akac Makur Chuot with our final selection of the night, pick No. 54.

"Fantastic personality, Akec…She’s a great person and it’s great to have her back on board. We know she brings speed and excitement to our list and really good defensive pressure as well. So, it’s great to have her back on board and we welcome her back to the Richmond family."
