    Crows fly away from Tigers

Richmond suffered a 68-point defeat to Adelaide on Sunday.

The Adelaide Crows accounted for Richmond on Sunday afternoon, marking everything that came their way in the 68-point victory, 18.14 (122) to 8.6 (54).

Despite the defeat, Tiger fans got another exciting glimpse into the future, with Luke Trainor and Jasper Alger both kicking their first career goals.

Trainor, the grandson of one of the game’s greatest goalkickers in Doug Wade, cooly nailed a set shot in the third period to land on the majors list.

    00:45

Alger, playing just his second game, followed suit in the final term, but in unusual circumstances.

Bouncing off the goalpost but keeping the footy clear of the padding, Alger dropped the ball on the outside of his boot to record the goal. He would add a second major later in the fourth quarter.

    00:38

Tiger favourite Mykelti Lefau had returned to AFL level to a warm round of applause after a year out with a torn ACL, but suffered a calf injury halfway through the second quarter, with Noah Balta swinging forward for the remainder of the match.

Dion Prestia had a strong performance with 29 disposals, nine clearances, seven tackles and six score involvements, while Sam Banks (25 disposals, 822 metres gained) and Jack Ross (23 disposals, 15 contested possessions, nine clearances) were both influential.

Despite the multi-pronged and dangerous Adelaide forward line, it was small backman Max Michalanney who kicked the opener, just his second major in 60 games, playing a defensive forward role on interceptor Nick Vlastuin.

Adelaide controlled play early, owning the footy and winning most of the one-on-one contests.

The visitors were inaccurate early in front of goal, but they would eventually sharpen, as the Crows kicked four goals in the backend of the second quarter.

Adelaide took a 43-point lead into half-time, holding Richmond to just two goals.

The Tigers would fight out the game, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a sixth straight defeat.

    08:03

Riley Thilthorpe was a constant threat all match and marked strongly, booting five. The Crows’ backline also found plenty of the footy, led by Josh Worrell and Rory Laird.

Richmond forward Tom Lynch was reported in the second quarter after an incident with Adelaide’s Jordon Butts.

The Tigers travel to Geelong to face the Cats next Saturday at GMHBA Stadium.
