Port Melbourne endured a tough loss at the hands of Williamstown on Saturday afternoon, going down 3.4 (22) to 7.11 (52) at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

Olivia Barton was strong once more despite the absence of defensive partner, Lisa Davie, with a team-leading 18 disposals, whilst Sophie Locke was the Borough’s only multiple goal scorer with two majors.

Elite tackler Kaitlyn O’Keefe lived up to her reputation, adding nine more tackles to her season tally.

AFLW Tiger Sarah Dargan, playing her second game for the Borough this season, finished the day with 14 disposals along with an equal game-high five clearances. Kate Adams and Courteney Bromage toiled all day in a relatively even midfield battle between the two sides, amassing three clearances each.

The afternoon started well for Port Melbourne with AFLW Tigers Stella Reid enjoying a classy running goal, however, this was the only time that Port lead Williamstown for the remainder of the day.

Two goals to Sharnie Whiting in a three-goal-to-one second stanza meant that the Seagulls entered the sheds at halftime with a 14-point lead. Port Melbourne’s miseries were compounded following a goalless third quarter as Williamstown continued to press ahead.

Uncharacteristic misses from Bella Stutt and Sophie Locke failed to heap pressure on Williamstown, epitomising the afternoon for Port Melbourne. A late consolation goal to Locke meant the scoreboard was more flattering than the game suggested.

Port Melbourne return to Trevor Barker Beach Oval next Saturday against the Southern Saints in search of their second win of season 2022.
