Having sustained a partial tear of her ACL in the Round 8 win over Adelaide, Gabby Seymour has turned her focus to rehab in hopes of being fit and firing for next season.

“I have got a big knee brace on and I will be in that for the next couple of weeks. I actually feel like I have gotten off pretty well. When you think ACL, you think of a 12-month injury," Seymour told The W Show.

“On the spectrum, I’m right down the very minor end of the injury scale, so I’m looking at more of a three-month rehab.

“I have a lot to be grateful for in terms of all of my strength and conditioning, which has meant a lot of my fibres did hold on.

“It also means that I can get back in the gym earlier. I’m a real gym nut, so that part of it has been a blessing.”

Seymour has taken confidence in knowing that she can lean on teammate Montana McKinnon, who, unfortunately, tore her ACL again in Round 5 against the Cats, having just returned from the very same injury.

The pair are set to make a splash together this off-season as they find ways to stay active during their rehabilitation phase.

“She has gone through it over the last 12 months, and she ticked off every box that she could,” Seymour said.

“She is someone who has an absolutely phenomenal attitude. Seeing her over the last 12 months, I genuinely don’t think she has had a bad day.

“I think I will be learning from her along the way. We have talked about teeing up some swimming sessions together, so if you see us both with really strong arms next season, you’ll know the work paid off.”

The Vice Captain also shared her thoughts on her side’s clash with Collingwood this Sunday, deeming it to be a good contest between both teams.

“I think it will be a good game on the weekend, we love playing Collingwood,” Seymour said.

“Especially in Pride Round, I think Collingwood do an awesome job at that venue (Victoria Park) in creating a real vibe around the place.

“I think Collingwood, as we have seen, has had the highs of highs and some games that haven’t been so flash as well, but I think it will be an evenly matched battle.”

A positive for Richmond this season has been Sierra Grieves, who has burst on the scene in her debut campaign, already establishing herself as a major ball winner and tough competitor.

Across six games, Grieves has averaged 15 disposals and three tackles, showcasing her elite speed through the side’s midfield.

“She is pretty classy, and she makes incredible decisions with the ball in hand,” Seymour said.

“She has a really good ability to find time and space, but I think she is still working on building up her tank, and as she does that over the next couple of years, she is going to be a really important part of our midfield moving forward.

“I’m very excited about her future.”
