Emerging Richmond forward Jonty Faull has inherited the number eight guernsey, continuing a production line that includes some of Richmond’s great goal kickers.
Three-time premiership player, three-time Coleman Medallist, dual Jack Dyer Medallist, and 12-time Michael Roach Medallist, Jack Riewoldt wore the number for the duration of his 347-game and 787-goal career.
Roach himself also wore the number eight across 200 games between 1977 and 1989.
Known as ‘Disco’ and for his high-flying marks and long kicking, the superstar spearhead booted 112 majors in the Club’s 1980 premiership year.
Roach inherited the jumper number from Richmond ‘immortal’ Dick Clay, who after starting his career as a key forward and was a star wingman in the 1967 and 1969 premiership sides.
Faull, who was selected by Richmond with pick No. 14 overall in the 2024 AFL Draft, impressed in his debut season across 16 games.
The 195cm forward ranked #4 for contested marks and competed strongly against more experienced opponents, generating 27 shots on goal for the year.
Faull said he was "super honoured" to take on the number.
"I am stoked to be part of the club of number eights," he added.
"Obviously, 1500 goals and eight premierships combined (between Roach, Riewoldt, and Clay), so if I am half the player they have been, I will be taking the right step."
1932 and 1934 premiership player, former Club captain, and best and fairest winner, Alan Geddes, was another notable wearer of the storied number eight guernsey at Richmond.
Other number changes for the 2026 season include:
6- Sam Banks (from 41)
10- Taj Hotton (from 24)
11- Luke Trainor (from 31)
43- Liam Fawcett (from 37)
