The Gold Coast Suns overran Richmond on Saturday afternoon at the MCG, winning by 68-points.
Hamstring injuries to Tigers captain Toby Nankervis, key forward Tom Lynch and Gold Coast's Christian Petracca saw all three stars unable to finish the game.
After a tight first half, the Suns pulled away as the match went on and were able to register their third consecutive victory for the year, winning 19.14 (128) to Richmond's 9.6 (60) in front of a crowd of 30,468.
Suns key forwards Ben King and Ethan Read combined for 11 goals between them. King booted an equal-career best seven goals straight, while Read took 11 marks and kicked four goals.
Lynch left the game in the second quarter while Nankervis exited just before the three-quarter time break, with Mykelti Lefau shouldering the ruck load in his first game since Round 16 last season.
Midway through the second term, the young Richmond outfit were leading the premiership contenders by six points. But following Lynch's injury, the momentum in the match shifted as the Suns put their foot down, kicking six unanswered goals to extend their lead to 31 points at the main break.
Richmond hung in during the third term, matching the visitors' goal-for-goal, but the Suns were a class above in the final term, kicking five goals to one to extend the final margin to 68 points.
Seth Campbell was a shining light for the Tigers, kicking three goals alongside his 19 disposals and seven score involvements.
Jayden Short's strong start to the campaign continued with 33 disposals and 730 metres gained, with midfield trio Tim Taranto (26 disposals), Jacob Hopper (26) and Jack Ross (24) all seeing plenty of the footy.
Sam Lalor's ability to impact the scoreboard was on display with seven score involvements, while on his return, Dion Prestia had six score involvements and 18 disposals.
