Richmond VFL coach Jack Madgen admits that while his side were strong in patches against Casey, there needs to be improvement to stay competitive for longer going forward.

And with a huge Friday night clash against Frankston coming up, there's no time to dwell on the past, with Madgen looking forward to a shot to secure the side's third win of the season.

The 27-point loss last Saturday was Richmond's second of the VFL season, with the coach admitting the team didn't take their chances when the match heated up.

"Everyone had a little moment when it mattered, we just weren't clean enough, which is a little disappointing. The only way to fix it is to get to work and concentrate in the moment," Madgen said.

"We will find ourselves in games like this all year, close games, the ebs-and-flows of footy. So it's [about] being able to execute and maximise our chances."

Attention has quickly shifted to Friday night's clash under lights against Frankston, who also have two wins to their name.

"They come out and support their team. It's going to be awesome, I'm looking forward to the atmosphere," Madgen said.

"[We have a] six day break, so the first thing is to recover and do those things right, so we can actually get a good training session in on Tuesday.

"We will crack in on Tuesday and make sure the boys are ready to go."

And what exactly needs to change is pretty simple, according to the coach.

"It's the execution piece. Not necessarily having to do anything different, but when it's our turn to execute, even at training, we take pride in the execution," Madgen said.

Richmond heads to Kinetic Stadium this Friday night to take on Frankston from 7.35pm (AEST).
