Richmond started the game in scintillating fashion, but Williamstown took control of the contest at DSV Stadium, with the Tigers downed by 37 points.

Liam Fawcett got the Tigers off to a great start, kicking his first goal of the day and looked lively throughout the first quarter. But the Seagulls bounced back after a roost on goal from youngster Hugo Hall-Kahan, keeping the scoreboard close.

Sam Toner got himself on the scoreboard moments later, but Williamstown’s Damon Hollow tied scores in a fast-paced start. After a tussle Richmond went from end-to-end, finishing in Toner’s second goal. Ned Renfree also managed to kick a late one to give the Tigers a 17-point advantage at quarter-time.

The Seagulls started the second quarter with a flurry, as Hollow and Ben Kennedy got the home side back to within a goal.

Seagulls Ruckman Alex Mirkov and David Cuningham soon made it four unanswered goals, taking back the lead 11 minutes into the second term. Richmond desperately needed a response, but Williamstown continued to have their way - Kallan Dawson making it five.

The Tigers defended grimly as the ball lived in the Seagulls forward half, with the home side erasing a 17-point deficit, turning it into 15-point lead at the main break.

It was a much better start to the second half for the Tigers, wrestling back the momentum through Toner, kicking his third, before Fawcett and Ned Renfree got Richmond within seven points.

But a late goal to Williamstown and some missed opportunities from the Tigers meant the Seagulls held a 13-point lead heading into the last.

Richmond pressed again, kicking the first of the last as Mohammed Yassine gave his side a big boost, cutting Williamstown's lead to only seven points. Almost immediately, Williamstown fired back though as Dawson kicked his second goal, giving his side some breathing room.

The Tigers were brave, but conceded heavily late in the game as Williamstown took the victory.
