Richmond's VFL team went down by 37 points at the hands of Williamstown on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Jack Madgen has provided an overview of each player's Round 7 performance.

Noah Roberts-Thomson (18 disposals, 1 goal, 1 clearance)
"I thought NRT had some really good moments. He was a big part of us having a chance and getting the game back to seven points early in the last quarter. He looked lively and created some good ball movement for us. He set up Fawcett’s second goal with a crumb. It was a step forward for his development."

Samson Ryan (12 disposals, 32 hit outs)
"We got beaten in the ruck on the day against a really tall former AFL ruckman. There were some tough conditions in the centre throw up with a cricket pitch. Ryan still provided an option ahead of the ball and halved a lot of aerial contests on both ends of the ground. We’re looking for Samson to bounce back and get back to his best footy, like he's played for us in the past."

Liam Fawcett (10 disposals, 2 goals, 4 marks)
"It was a tough day for our forwards. They had some really good defenders. Liam is at his best when he is running and jumping at the footy, not necessarily getting in a wrestle. So the team also needs to help deliver the ball to him, and allow him to play at his best."

Mohammad Yassine (10 disposals, 1 goal, 1 clearance)
"I thought it was easily the most unselfish game I've seen him play. He had some really good forward 50 pressure and finished with a goal himself. I'd still love to see him bring his strengths a bit more, in terms of his high-speed running and his sprint."

Joel Garner (22 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 clearances)
"It was a good game from Joel. He played every line; forward, back and midfield. His contest work, leg drive and fingernail plays were a standout. More of the same from Garner this week would be great. I thought he tried his guts out. I love coaching Joel."

Harry Scott (26 disposals, 11 tackles, 7 clearances)
"I thought the most impressive thing about Scott was his 11 tackles. Williamstown had a really strong midfield, with some ex-AFL talent, and they probably got a hold of us, but I thought Scott was pretty good on the day. His hunt for the football and cleanliness when he won the ball stood out. He has a bit to learn as a young midfielder, but for the last two weeks, have been a real step forward in his development."

Lachlan Street (17 disposals, 5 tackles, 3 clearances)
"It was a tough day for Street. He started in the midfield and went to half back. He was very comfortable being tackled and giving the ball off to his teammates, which is obviously a strength of his. We need Street to keep leading the best he can, with his words and actions."

Leo Connolly (14 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles)
"Leo played wing and half back. I am always trying to look for ways to get Leo involved in our offence, because he makes stuff happen. He made some great decisions to get our ball movement going."

Zaydyn Lockwood (8 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles)
"It was a tough ask for the key defenders on the weekend. We thinned out our back line a little bit in terms of our numbers behind the ball. The backs tried their hardest and defended 60+ inside 50s. Zaydyn had some really good moments aerially and also learned a couple of lessons on defending the lead."

Tom McKenzie (9 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles)
"Tom was good in the contest and used the ball with composure. He needs to improve his awareness and his ability to take in information around him, to set himself and others up as best as possible. So we'll continue to work on that. I think his last two weeks have been really solid."

Olli Hotton (17 disposals, 5 clearances, 4 tackles)
"Our midfielders got beaten overall on the day. I thought when Olli had the footy, he was pretty solid, but he was a bit off when he didn't have the ball, pre stoppage, and with his running patterns. We need to keep tapping into the other aspects of being a midfielder as well with him."

Nick Collier (10 disposals, 7 tackles)
"It was Collier's toughest game for the year. His intent and effort was still there, but we lacked a bit of method in organisation. He had a couple of moments, especially early in the game, that I'm sure he would want back. I'm sure we will get a great response from him this week."

Sam Philp (17 disposals, 4 tackles, 4 clearances)
"Philp played forward and midfield on the day, and again, tried his guts out. He gets forward and challenges. But similar to the rest of our midfielders, we lacked bodywork and stoppage."

Ry Cantwell (4 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 clearance)
"Ry found it challenging on the day. We spent a large part of the game defending, so we didn't get to see his offensive drive and punch out the back line. Ry finished the game as a forward, kicking a really nice stoppage goal. That might be something we will explore going forward with Ry. He's got a lot of attributes that can make our team better."

Dan Lowther (14 disposals, 7 marks, 6 tackles)
"I love Dan’s competitiveness in the ruck and as a forward. I liked what he did in the ruck and his follow-up work. He is turning himself into a really good VFL key forward and continues to get multiple shots at goal each week."

Liam George (17 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 clearances)
"Similar to a few other players, Liam gets in a lot of the right spots. He's really the heart and soul of our team, but he needs to continue to work on his execution by foot. His decision-making is pretty sound, but it’s the final execution piece that is letting him down. When George is playing well, in the two games we have won this year, he has stood out."

Sam Toner (12 disposals, 3 goals, 5 marks)
"I think Sam had six shots on goal. But the best part about it, two or three of them came from his front-line pressure and his alertness. We know how good his forward craft is, and his ability to read the ball drop, but what was really pleasing for him to see was him kicking goals from his defensive acts."

Kane Loftus (12 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles)
"Kane played his first game for Richmond VFL. I joked with him after the game, saying he made all the mistakes every first gamer makes when the speed of the game and pressure increase. But I thought in trying circumstances, and as a late in, Kane played his role pretty well.

Tom Ferguson (12 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 clearances)
"Ferguson, at his best, is really clean, and his ball use is solid. His ability to hold his lane and not collapse over to the contest is vital for our team. He is finding the ball at a decent rate for a small forward, now he needs to capitalise on his chances."

01:03

Ned Renfree (8 disposals, 2 goals, 3 marks)
"We gave a bit of a role on one of their really good intercept defenders, and he probably struggled with the reference on the day. Ned is at his best when he's in the contest. So we will continue to try to get him in the contest more and more."

Aaron Sharkie (19 disposals, 4 tackles, 1 clearance)
"I thought Sharkie had some really strong moments, especially in offence. His ball use got us going out of the back half, and that’s what we really need at the moment. He still needs to scan and reference his opponent and not get ahead of the football too much. We will help him turn his dial to the defensive side, and we'll be golden."

Mutaz El Nour (12 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles)
"It was Mutaz's quietest game for the year. Mutaz can still work on his communication and setting up his teammates in great defensive positions, as he is the last line most of the time."

Zane Greenham (4 disposals, 1 tackle)
"It was a tough day for Zane. He suffered a broken finger in the second half, which affected his disposal a bit. Much like our other small forwards, there is a lot to learn in holding our lanes and not collapsing into the contest. We wish Zane the best in the next month, while he gets his finger right."
