Adem Yze

As Richmond heads to the SCG for just the second time in a decade, to take on a high-flying Sydney side, it may seem like one of the hardest road trips in football for some.

But as much as it seems like a daunting challenge, it's something coach Adem Yze and senior leader Jayden Short believe has come at the perfect time for the team.

"They're [Sydney] one of the in-form teams in the competition. It's a great opportunity for our younger players to go and really test themselves and test our system against one of the best teams in the competition," Yze said on Tuesday.

It also gives the Tigers the chance to play four quarters on the road against a top team, after Richmond were unable to keep pace with the ladder-leading Fremantle at Optus Stadium in Round 3.

"We did that earlier in the year against Freo. We tested Freo for a couple of quarters and we knew it just wasn't good enough for four quarters," Yze said.

"We know we're going to have to go and do that on the road at the SCG against the Swans, but we're looking forward to it."

So how exactly will Yze adapt to the change of scenery, at a ground that not many of the Tigers' players have graced in their careers?

"Take the energy from the win [in Dreamtime at the 'G], take the learnings from the review during the week, train hard and prepare, like we did against the Bombers. We're looking forward to that opportunity," he said.

"Their form at the SCG is really strong, the size of the ground is different. There's different things at different grounds that you're dealing with. You're on the road and it's a hostile environment. They've got that home ground advantage. We want to take that away from them."

For Short, who will notch up career game 201 at the SCG on Saturday, the win over Essendon has only given the group the reassurance

"They're [Sydney] a great team, but we're building confidence, building our standards, building our belief throughout the group. Our footy can hold up," Short said.

"An away trip for us is awesome. We love getting away together and spending time together.

"We know we're going to have to be at our best to beat the Swans. We're looking forward to getting up there."

Richmond takes on Sydney at the SCG on Saturday from 1.15pm (AEST).
