Jack Madgen

Richmond VFL coach Jack Madgen says the chance to fly to Sydney to take on the Swans this Saturday is one his side is ready for.

Coming off two narrow losses at the hands of Box Hill and Essendon in recent weeks, Madgen is confident a change of scenery will be the motivation the team needs to search for their third win of 2026.

The Swans sit fifth on the VFL ladder and already have five wins to their name, but the Richmond coach believes they're a chance to shake down the home team at Tramway Oval on Saturday morning.

"It's our first little road trip [for the season]. I know the VFL boys always appreciate that. They get to feel like a professional athlete for the weekend," Madgen said.

"It will be a good challenge, and we get away as a [whole] Club."

Most importantly, it's a chance to continue to improve on game plans, while also elevating the positive, professional behaviours shown by players and coaches during each match.

"If we don't have to coach attitude and effort, and we can just focus on system and structure, we've got a chance to win every game," Madgen said.

"We expect to win and we'll be looking to do that when we head over."

But it may not be the luxury Madgen is used to when it comes to the make shift coaches box that awaits he and his team on the weekend.

"I looked at some vision of them [Swans VFL] during the week, and the coaches' box is on a scissor lift! Maybe 'Punk' [Luke Breust] will be messing with the controls a little bit during the game," he laughed.

Richmond VFL takes on Sydney at Tramway Oval on Saturday from 10.00am (AEST), before the AFL match between the two sides at 1.15pm on the SCG.
