Richmond has received its third Telstra AFL Rising Star nomination of the 2026 season, with goal sneak Jasper Alger the latest to be recognised on the big stage.
Crowned the Round 14 AFL Rising Star, Alger, who is 19, was prominent against the Lions in Hobart.
Alger kicked a career-high four goals, while also adding 10 disposals, six marks, five of which were inside-50, and seven score involvements. It follows his three-goal haul against Sydney in Round 12.
The 183cm teenage forward, taken by the Tigers with their last of eight picks (No. 58 overall) in the 2024 National Draft, has showcased the impressive skill set he possesses throughout his past two games following his return from a knee injury that sidelined him for a couple of months.
In just eight career games, Alger has already impressed coach Adem Yze, who lauded his ability to stand tall against the reigning premiers.
"He's a talented kid and if it is breezy, he does read the ball really well. He's playing above his weight grade right now, he's playing tall for us and providing a contest. His talent has shone through," Yze said post match.
Currently this season, in the four games he has played, Alger is ranked first among AFL rising stars for goals per game (eighth in total), first for marks inside-50 per game (sixth in total), fourth in contested marks per game (ninth in total) and seventh in tackles inside-50 per game.
Alger becomes Richmond’s third Rising Star nominee for the 2026 season, joining Sam Grlj (Round 7) and Patrick Retschko (Round 11).
