Richmond's VFL side suffered a 63-point loss at the hands of Tasmania at UTAS Stadium in Round 12.
Coach Jack Madgen has provided an overview of each player's performance in the wet and windy loss away from home.
Taj Hotton (15 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 clearances)
"It was great to see Taj back out and playing limited minutes. He put his head over the ball, and won a lot of his own footy. Those are tough conditions for your first game of the year. I thought he ran a lot of the right patterns as a forward, but we just weren't able to get the footy to him due to the conditions. He got through fine and looked better and better as the game went on."
Zane Peucker (1 goal, 18 disposals, 3 clearances)
"It was Zane's first game for a couple of months and in tough conditions. I thought he was one of the cleaner players on our team. He had some really nice moments and played some midfield time. He had a fair bit of the footy, and had a few clearances, so that'll be something we can explore going forward a bit more."
Noah Roberts-Thomson (14 disposals, 7 tackles, 1 clearance)
"I thought Noah was one of our better players to adapt to the wet conditions. He was confident in taking territory when needed and he was pretty clean. When he was in the midfield, he looked really solid."
Samson Ryan (39 hit-outs, 16 disposals, 4 clearances, 3 tackles)
"Samson competed really hard all day. Centre bounce was tough for him in the rainy conditions, but he fought hard. He competed for us down the line aerially and put his head over the ball when he needed to. I thought he was one of our best."
Tom Burton (12 disposals, 3 tackles, 1 clearance)
"Tom did what he could up forward. We probably didn't set him up as best as we possibly could for him to have more impact on the game, as his role requires us to shape and use the ball. He still had his moments, but it was hard to dominate in those conditions."
Kaleb Smith (19 disposals, 2 marks, 1 clearance)
"Kaleb was solid, but also found the conditions hard. When it rains for three days straight leading into the game, it's hard for his run-and-carry game. He was still relentless when he got the ball. We will work on helping him take territory and adapt to wet weather footy."
Olli Hotton (11 disposals, 4 tackles, 1 clearance)
"Olli had some great moments in the first half with his contest and body lining. He lacked the surge mentality in the wet and fed back too much. Despite the tough weather, it was great to see him get to play with his brother, Taj."
Mohammed Yassine (3 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 mark)
"It was a really quiet day for Moey, as the rain restricted his intense speed. He still competed pretty well in the air in the first half, but wasn't up to his usual standards for a lot of the game."
Joel Garner (10 disposals, 8 tackles, 2 clearances)
"Joel's one of the few guys on our team that adapted to the conditions well and took territory when he needed. He didn't pull out of a contest, which showed his leadership and bravery."
Harry Scott (17 disposals, 8 clearances, 3 tackles)
"Harry found the conditions difficult as a midfielder. He had some moments in the third quarter where I could see him bringing his strengths. However, going forward, we will look to increase his speed and ball read through the middle."
Lachlan Street (25 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 clearances)
"Once he adapted to the conditions, he was one of our better players. Street got the ball going our way, but again lacked ball security, which fuelled their offence. We will help him work through his speed and ball movement."
Mutaz El Nour (14 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 marks)
"Mutaz wasn’t his usual self in aerial contests due to the weather. We just lacked some aerial presence, and were too easy to play against down there. El Nour had his moments with some awesome chase downs, and he saw out the second half strongly."
Leo Connolly (17 disposals, 4 tackles, 3 marks)
"The defensive side of Leo's game continues to improve. It wasn't a day for his usual ball use, due to conditions. We will work on his territory game and surging forward with confidence."
Tom McKenzie (13 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles)
"Like a lot of the rest of our players due to the weather, Tom struggled with ball security. Obviously, he had some good moments, but it was a tough day. We will help to lift his level this week and rebuild his confidence."
Nick Collier (9 disposals, 4 tackles)
"One thing you don't have to worry about with Collier is his intent and effort. He took territory when he needed to. He was strong in his role. Going forward, we know we can utilise him in the midfield to give us some fight."
Sam Philp (15 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 clearances)
"I thought Philp adjusted to the conditions really well. He played wing and high forward, which is a little bit of a different role. We probably could have used him inside a little bit earlier in the game, but I thought his intent and contest was at the level."
Liam George (1 goal, 11 disposals, 3 tackles)
"George played wing and forward, kicking one of our three goals on the day. He lacked the cleanliness and contest required, but that was weather based. We will work on being clean with the ball and using it quickly this week."
Sam Toner (13 disposals, 3 tackles)
"Much like the rest of our forwards, it was a tough day for Sam. He lacked the contest and aerial presence required in those conditions. The challenge with Sam is to get in and under the ball, and compete in more contests."
Josh Pollocks (1 goal, 7 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 marks)
"I thought Pollocks played pretty well given his opportunities in the game. Playing as a key forward in those conditions was tough. He kept coming at the footy and providing us an option, often outnumbered. He kicked a nice goal in the first quarter, on the back of a contested mark. We will work on feeding him the ball quickly and cleanly this week."
Sean Lai (9 disposals, 3 clearances, 1 mark)
"Much like our other wingers, Sean found it hard on the day. We want to help Sean learn his role without the ball in hand. He is a good kick and can be damaging when he has the ball in his hands, but we want to see his running ability without the footy improve."
Kai Stewart (4 disposals, 4 tackles)
"I thought his forward patterns were pretty good. He was able to get up high and he looked dangerous at points in the game. We will work on his capitalisation this week to improve his impact."
Zaydyn Lockwood (7 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 hit-outs)
"Similar to our other key backs, Zaydyn got beaten in the air in the conditions. He did have a few good moments aerially. He was one of the few players on our team that was able to take an overhead mark. He was able to adapt to the wet, take territory surges and get the ball going our way. It's hopefully a good learning point for a young key defender."
Aaron Sharkie (16 disposals, 3 tackles, 1 clearance)
"Sharkie struggled a bit in the rain. He's been really good at using the footy, helping us build our offence in the last two months, but it wasn't a day for that. There'll be some really good learnings for him. I'm confident that he can bounce back, because he's one of our most improved learners, who takes feedback and actions it."
