Richmond's VFL side suffered a 63-point loss to North Melbourne at ETU Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Jack Madgen has provided an overview of each player's performance in the Round 13 clash.
Rhyan Mansell (3 goals, 9 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 clearances)
"Mansell brought his pressure and hunt on the day, and you could see a real intent in his game. He finished with three goals and stood tall. I would love to see him continue to improve his ball movement up the ground too. He will be better for the run after injury."
Zane Peucker (1 goal, 19 disposals, 2 tackles)
"Zane played as a midfield/forward and was clean around the footy. He had some really good moments in the contest. It was a good lesson for him against some good opposition midfielders. He learned the work rate and contest-to-contest running required to be a midfielder. He was solid on the day."
Noah Roberts-Thomson (6 disposals, 2 clearances)
"Noah played as a midfield/forward, and we look at it as a learning opportunity. I’d love to see him be a bit cleaner in the contest, like he was the previous week in poorer conditions, and then finish his work in offence. He had some strong moments but failed to capitalise. We will work with him to help add to his game and improve impact."
Kane McAuliffe (12 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 clearance)
"After over a month off, Kane came back and played through the midfield, which was a tough ask. His stoppage craft was good. I implore him to work on his contest running and impact. He had some really big hits, and when he was in the contest, he was strong."
Samson Ryan (9 hit-outs, 9 disposals, 3 tackles)
"Ryan played mostly forward, with about 40 per cent in the ruck. He provided us with an option, but we struggled to deliver to him. I thought he was solid when he went into the ruck against two opposition rucks who were pretty handy."
Tom Burton (1 goal, 18 disposals, 2 tackles)
"Burton had a tough day as a high forward. We did not use the ball well for him to play his best game. His work rate and effort was good as it always is. His running ability is impressive, so we need to utilise that better going forward."
Oliver Hayes-Brown (24 hit-outs, 20 disposals, 8 clearances)
"In terrible conditions at centre ball-ups, I thought Hayes-Brown did well when we competed. When he is in the contest, he is really impressive. His first possessions and his cleanliness in the stoppage were important. He had two shots at goal, which is always a bonus as the ruck."
Kaleb Smith (34 disposals, 3 marks, 2 clearances)
"I thought that was one of Kaleb's best games of the year. His contest and positioning as a high defender was good, which provided bounce off half-back. He had clean hands and made good decisions with the ball. I really liked his game on Sunday."
Mohammed Yassine (2 goals, 5 disposals, 1 tackle)
"Yassine played as a high forward, but we want him to work on his movement inside forward 50. An impressive part of his game is his ability to find the goals, kicking two on the day. We want to see improvement in his positioning to help the ball carrier going forward."
Harry Scott (12 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 clearance)
"Scott played midfield for three quarters, and then finished the game as a forward. Like always, his contest was good, but we want to see his running power increase to keep up with opponents. The more contests Scott can get himself in, the more chances he will have to show his weapons and strengths."
Lachlan Street (19 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 marks)
"I thought Street was one of our better players on the day. He played his role pretty well as a midfielder. He was strong in the contest and got the ball going our way. I would love to see him keep working hard back in defence and help with our layers."
Leo Connolly (20 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle)
"Leo's ball use on the day was exceptional, and it kick-started our offence. We just couldn't connect post that. Beyond that it was a tough day with the opposition's ball movement. I thought his intent to defend was there and he showed effort."
Zaydyn Lockwood (4 disposals, 2 tackles, 1 mark)
"It was an interesting game for Zaydyn. He halved a lot of contests, having nine spoils. There is still a bit of defensive craft to work on, but I thought his effort and intent in the contest was good. He has a lot of attributes to be a really good key defender and I love seeing him embrace the challenge each week."
Tom McKenzie (13 disposals, 3 marks, 1 clearance)
"Tom played on a variety of small and tall forwards as a defender. I thought he competed well when he was on a tall forward in one-on-one contests and brought the ball to ground. Tom is at his best when he keeps it simple in offence and keeps upright in contests."
Nick Collier (19 disposals, 8 tackles, 5 marks)
"Collier was a standout for us on the day. His ability to read the cues up the ground and come forward to impact on defence was a real standout. He's hard in the contest, his tackle pressure is good, and he often gets the other team's best small forward. I loved his last quarter, his intensity, and his hunt as a midfielder."
Liam George (17 disposals, 3 marks, 2 clearances)
"George played on the wing all day. His offensive stuff was pretty good, but he just needs to be a bit harder and tougher in the contest. One thing you get out of George every week is his intent and attitudes. We want to help him grow in understanding the contest."
Josh Pollocks (3 disposals, 2 tackles)
"It was a tough day for our key forwards against some good AFL-listed key defenders. I thought Josh halved a lot of contests. He kept competing and had some really good close the exit moments, where he just got a fingertip on their switch kick, preventing them to get their ball movement started."
Caleb Nancarrow (1 goal)
"Unfortunately, Caleb got hurt in the first quarter after a pretty promising start. We wish Caleb all the best in his recovery."
Sean Lai (12 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles)
"Sean played on the wing all day, but we did get beaten in that area. He looks dangerous when he's around the footy, but lacked execution on Sunday. He's a good athlete, and we look forward to helping him increase his workload and skill."
Sam Philp (8 disposals, 5 kicks, 2 tackles)
"Philp was in some good spots, had a shot or two at goal, but just wasn't able to convert. I like Sam when he's in the contest, because he's hard at it, and his hunt and his pressure is elite. We want to help him shine in whatever role we put him in, so we will keep experimenting."
Mutaz El Nour (19 disposals, 7 marks, 4 tackles)
"Mutaz had his hands full down there with some really good aerial players for North Melbourne, but he tried his best. He finished the day with seven intercepts. I'm keen for him to continue to build his craft as a key defender, and see what strategies and guidance we can offer to see improvement again."
Aaron Sharkie (15 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle)
"I saw a lift in Sharkie's contest this week. I could see a change in mindset, attitude and behaviour out there for him, which was awesome. His run ability to create and outnumber is really impressive, and his want to get better is solid. Every week his attitude to get better has been really pleasing. When we play better as a team and use the footy better as a team, Sharkie will play better."
Olli Hotton (21 disposals, 6 clearances, 4 marks)
"Olli had an impressive last quarter as a midfielder, where he was clean in his execution. We want to see craft improvement overall. The more contests Olli is in, the better he plays, so we as coaches need to set him up better to use his weapons and strengths."
